Coffee Bio:

Gathiruini is one of the thirteen factories (washing stations) of the Komothai Coffee Growers Cooperative Society. Established in 1956, Gathiruini is rooted in the fertile highlands of Kiambu County, Kenya. The Society unites more than 11,000 smallholder farmers, including 5,203 women, who rely on coffee as a cornerstone of their family livelihoods. The Kiambu County itself sits in Kenya’s central highlands, bordered by Nakuru and Kajiado to the west, Murang’a and Nyandarua to the north, and Nairobi to the south. The region’s deep red soils and favourable climate make it exceptionally well suited for agriculture.

Gathiruini farmers selectively handpick red, ripe cherries and deliver them to the wet mill the same day. The parchment is fermented for 8 to 12 hours, encouraging the umami character often associated with Kenyan coffees, then washed and slowly sun‑dried on raised platforms until the moisture content reaches 10 to 12 percent.
